About This Event

CANCELLED We don't have enough signups to go forward on this event - come back for a future one!

Are you up for an exciting musical challenge? Want to assemble your own dream-team band and show the world what you can do? A condensed version of our traditional showcases similar in format to the 48 Hour Film Festival, this showcase gives musicians 24 hours to create a 15 minute set of music including at least one original song.

The Theme
At our kick-off event on Friday, we'll reveal the theme of the show as well as some additional restrictions on the one original song that you'll write as a band in the 24-hour period. The theme will be topical and open to songs from many genres - some good example themes might be "Animals," "Pride," or "Heartbreak." The restriction will be two musical elements that you'll need to incorporate into a new, original song - a single line of lyrics, and a melodic hook

Band Members vs. Free Agents
After registering, you can indicate whether you already have band members (and if so, if you're seeking additional members or not). If you don't have band members in mind, you can sign up as a free agent. We'll ask about your genre/style preferences, and do our best to match free agents to each other and/or to other bands. All participants will be placed in a band by Thursday the day before the event.

Bands: After registering, one band member should use the "Create a band"function on this page (button in the upper right). Add all your band members, and use the description to note if you are looking for additional members or already have a full lineup.

Free agents: Use the message board to tell Ariel if you want to be assigned to a band!

The Timeline

Kickoff Event
7:00-7:15 Musicians Arrive
7:15-7:45 Intro talk, theme revealed, Q&A
7:45-8:30 Songwriting workshop (optional)
7:45-11:30 Open rehearsal.

We've reserved the whole 7DL Studio for the evening of Friday Jan 29, and bands will be able to check out rehearsal rooms in 45 minute blocks (there will be more bands than rehearsal rooms available). When you're not in a rehearsal room, you can do low-volume planning, melody and lyric writing in the Performance Room, go grab dinner or a snack, or head off to your own practice space at a band member's house.

Independent Practice
You should make sure you're free of commitments for the whole 24 hours. It's up to individual bands to choose where/when to practice, but we will have some space at 7DL Studios reserved on Saturday for exclusive rental by 24 Hour Showcase participants (rental fees are the responsibility of band members, not included in your participation fee).

I should be brining a guitarist along -- we'll need some drums. Style-wise, expect at least some 70's jazz-fusion chops to enter the room.

This sounds wonderfully crazy. Can go the bassist/vocalist or rhythm guitarist/vocalist route on this one.
