About This Event

--update---

The original version of this post listed the show date incorrectly. The correct show date is Sunday, June 14

--------------

The laws of this land provide musicians with the opportunity to perform from a treasure trove of musical hits. The Public Domain is public property, and is yours to share, shape, mold, and perform in a way that retains the integrity of the original work, while still kicking in that 2015 spice. With this showcase at Gypsy Sally’s, you’ll be provided with the perfect setting to showcase some of these foundational musical works. Playing music from the Public Domain gives us the chance to highlight endless country, bluegrass, jazz, and folk standards from a bygone era with an acoustic flair. Let’s pay homage, and play music.

Like all our Flashband showcases, we challenge participating musicians (most of whom have never met) to make a band in a month. This is a one night only show. All bands play a 15 minute set, which must include all music in the public domain, plus at least one new original song written after the band forms. We encourage musicians to put their originals into the public domain, as well. We will record the entire show and make it available through the Flashband website afterwards.

Musician Signup

Musicians from all backgrounds and styles are welcome to sign up, although they should feel confident in their ability to perform a fifteen minute set on stage after just a few practices with their band. Interested in performing? Musician signup is open until the meet-and-greet jam date of May 16. Read about how the Flashband showcase works.

Registration fee covers:

  •  Use of space and equipment at the studio at the jam session
  •  Organization and logistics by Flashband staff
  •  Professional photos of the show (see past photos here)

Any musicians that have never been in a band before (regular band or Flashband) are required to attend an Intro to Performance class before participating. All musicians are strongly encouraged to attend - the class is designed to provide useful information to musicians of all backgrounds. The next Intro class will be held immediately before the meet-and-greet jam.

Meet-and-greet jam

Presented by:

7DrumLessonsAll participating musicians must attend the meet-and-greet jam, where musicians cycle through 4-5 concurrent jam sessions and then begin forming their bands. Read about how the meet-and-greet jam works.
