About This Event

We want the funk. The whole funk. Nothing but the funk. In honor of the DC Funk Parade, Flashband is taking over Solly’s on U St for a one night only party. We’ll have 40+ musicians in about 8 bands getting real funky.

Don't know what Flashband is? Flashband Showcases bring together a group of musicians who form new, temporary bands (Flashbands). After a short period of rehearsal, we put them on stage for a one-night only show.  Any musician is welcome to join. Most Flashband shows draw a 250-350 person audience - check out pictures from our past shows on our Facebook page!

Meet-and-greet jam:

All participating musicians must attend the meet-and-greet jam, where musicians cycle through 3-4 concurrent jam sessions and play with all the other participants, and then begin forming their bands.

The meet-and-greet jam is the start of the process for this show! It will be held at 7Drum Lessons Studios in NW DC, from 4pm till 7pm.

7Drum Lessons Studios

2008 8th Street NW, DC

April 6th, 4pm – 7pm

The rules:

We'll have 40+ musicians in 8 bands that first formed just one month before the show. Each band must do a 15 minute set.

- Draw from your funkiest inspirations to make a Flashband set that is all about Funk.

- At least one original song written as a band since forming

- No pre-existing bands

We’ll be at Solly’s U St Tavern for this one. Feel free to draw upon any of your funk influences, including Fred Wesley, Average White Band, Sly & The Family Stone, basically any artists bringing that good stuff. You can interpret Funk anyway you’d like. Bands can do covers of Funk songs, originals in a particular Funk style, or Funk songs with a new arrangement. Just keep it funky baby.

The Location:

Solly’s U St Tavern

1942 11th St NW

Washington, DC 20001

Saturday, May 3rd, 8pm

After the Funk Parade itself outdoors in and around U Street from 5-7, this show will be part of the evening Funk Parade Music Festival. Be ready to play an awesome show!
