About This Event

All the past Flashband events have featured a broad diversity of musical styles. This time, the event rules build in that diversity by default. On September 20, 25 musicians will perform as temporary bands, each combining two diverse, randomly assigned genres. Folk:metal, ska:americana, hip-hop:reggae or any other combination. This can mean playing iconic songs from one genre in the style of another, playing a song from each, or blending the two in an original song. Come out for a night of guaranteed diversity!
Check out a preview of one of the bands' practice, doing a surf-motown combo:
Ain't No Mountain High.
Tickets are $6 pre and $8 at the door.

----signup is now closed, come out to the event on September 20th!----
Signup opened Monday, August 12 at noon.
The Location:
The Dunes
1402 Meridian Place NW, Washington D.C.
Friday, September 20, 2013, 7pm

The rules:
- We'll have 25 musicians in bands that form one month before the show. Each band must do a 15 minute set.
- As soon as the band registers on the site, they will be sent 4 random genres. The band should pick at least 2 of these genres to use for their genre mashup. This is intended to give the bands some flexibility due to instrumentation restraints and group preferences.
- Bands must write at least one original song together as a band (and are welcome to do more)
- No fully-formed pre-existing bands

Want to participate?
Create an account or sign in, and then click the signup button on the upper right. Make sure you're available to attend the two mandatory events: the meet-and-greet jam on Sunday, August 25 at 6pm, and of course the show itself on Friday, September 20! Signup is open to musicians of all types and genres. Musicians just need to have a sense of adventure and be willing to play some new music!

Bringing the obscure to the relatively unknown!!!!

Jiggy Skadust

Somehow managing to meld celtic, ska, and glamrock into one amazing performance....
