About This Event

Country music is known for having some pretty specific song topics, but they sure have made a lot of good songs with that material. This special showcase at Hill Country will present 5 one-time bands each presenting one of the key topics of country music. These highly-specific yet all-encompassing themes (borrowed from elsewhere on the internet) will provide the guiding light for each band’s fifteen minute set.

The show:

Hill Country Live

410 7th Street NW, Washington, DC

Sunday, June 29

Doors 5pm, first band at 6pm

Get your tickets early on the Hill Country website:

Hill Country has some great Texas-style barbecue, restaurant upstairs and full bar. Come early and grab some dinner, and stay through the bands to hear some great music!

Don't know what a Flashband Showcase is? Flashband Showcases bring together a group of musicians who form new, temporary bands. After a short period of rehearsal, we put them on stage for a one-night only show.

The rules:

  • 30 musicians form temporary bands one month before the show.
  • Each band gets one Country Theme and will do there full 20 minute set about songs in that theme. Bands pick their themes on a first-come first-serve basis.
  • At least one original song written as a band since forming. To make sure each original is a perfect country song, each band should also incorporate song elements like David Allen Coe told us about: momma, trains, trucks, prison, getting drunk.
  • No pre-existing bands

Our theme is heart wrenching loneliness. Members include jon, jess kate pat, miles, and me. Which Jon are you? You were the one who teaches choir. I'm not sure if you are John Nolt or Jon Courtney.

yet unnamed pop up band

I think we might have Miles on drums but if he is unavailable due to another commitment we may have an opening. Chris Oursley is not registered yet but will be rhythm guitar and maybe other things. I think we'll take the drinking theme?
